Stray Cat mother and Kittens?
There is a stray mother cat and her four kittens living in my backyard (underneath my shed) and I don’t know what to do! I feed them regularly, but they are still scared of me (especially the mother) and the kittens are only about five or six weeks old.
You see there is a huge swamp down the road from where I live, and there are quite a few alligators (clearly I live in Florida) that are known to be a problem. They come out every once and a while and eat the raccoons, armadillos, and sometimes even cats that live nearby. Even worse, an annoying neighbor down the street ad four wolf-dogs last year, but two escaped and are still living in the woods in front of the swamp and aren’t very friendly. Our community already has dozens of cats and small dogs that have ‘disappeared’, and I don’t want to risk these kittens venturing around just to get eaten too.
I don’t know whether to leave them alone, or to call someone to come get them. I’ve tried getting them to come into my house, but the mother is scared so she always runs away. I was thinking I could leave my screen door open and just wait for them to come in, then hand them over to some shelter. I know someone will adopt them, their so darn cute! The Humane society nearby said they could give me one trap for 60 flipping bucks, then to pay for them to immunized and fixed ($50 more bucks a piece) but they won’t keep them anyway, and I don’t have enough money for five traps right now (they only allow one animal per cage). Is there anyone organization in Tampa that can rescue the cats for either a smaller fee or for free? Or maybe they’re just out of luck after all.
Which of three, an opossum, an armadillo, or a racoon is the most likely to harm a house cat?
My indoor/outdoor cats keep getting hurt by a wild animal. I am at my wits and money end.
my cat passed away? human rabies?
so i posted a question about this a while ago.
And my kitten passed away on saturday and we don’t know why.
she had just been fixed on thursday.
The kitten bit my daughter right before she passed but not in a mean way.
And i gave the kitten mouth to mouth.
My daughters finger is infected now. And we went to the emergency and they said we had to get the kitten tested for rabies.
So we called the animal shelter and they said they don’t know if the text will come up since we didn’t freeze are kitten. The kitten got her rabies shot the day she was fixed which was on thursday.
And she and all the other cats we have had been going outside during the day until thursday.
And we live in the country and we have raccoons, opossum’s, armadillos, and other wild life that come in are garage.
And they possibly drank out of there water dish.
And rabies is transfer ed from saliva and bites.
we have a total of 8 cats now. Was 9.=[
So if they cant tell if the kitten has rabies do you think they will corintine the other cats or just automatically put them to sleep?
And do you think they would have cought the rabies?
None of the other cats are acting weird and i know it can take up to 2 weeks to show.
Cat got bit? by what?
We just got are cat from outside and she had a bloody bite.
There’s 2 little spots where im guessing were teeth..
We don’t know what it could have been?
We have armadillos, opossums, raccoons, snakes, deers, and I think that is all.
The two spots are about 3/4-1 inch apart.
She doesn’t have 2 other spots under them thought so we dont have any idea how it happened?
The bite is right on top on her head and it is pretty swollen but we don’t believe it was a snake because it would have been alot more swollen then it is.
I would take some pictures but you cant really even see it because of her hair.
She is also acting weird.
We brought her inside and she was hissing at her kittens before we even sat her down on the ground.
She doesn’t seem to be in pain as far as i know.
I cannot take her to a vet right now because we live in the country and there are no vets by us.
I could take her tommarow but i dont know if she will still be with us.
Please help me We have many children in this house that love this cat to death.

i just got done checking on her again and it has gotten a little more swollen and she does seem in pain and very tired.
She can’t keep her eyes open but it may be because the swelling.
And I forgot to say We have water moccasin, grass snakes, and i don’t know for sure what else we have.
We live in texas and there are MANY snakes over by us, but these are the only one’s we have seen but we’ve only lived here since January.
okay i just found another spot under the others. so there are three possible four.
there’s nothing by us.
And they are very expensive!
she is actually the mother cat and her kittens are about 5 months so they are weaned.
I was just checking her and she has a high temperature.. I don’t think she can swallow very good because it makes a noise and it seems hard.
But she is breathing alright.
there’s two marks on the top of her head and one on the side of her neck.
Maybe about 1-2 inches under them?
she is worth everything to me!
I just don’t have any money right now because i just had a baby and I’ve spend all my money towards her.
And the nearest vet is about 2-3 hours away.
I would spend the money for her in a heart beat if i had it!
now she is acting as if she doesn’t want me near her and if i get by her she will run.
