I know its a bit odd, but Im looking for general medical knowledge on the nine banded armadillo. I am a zookeeper and our armadillo is not doing so hot. She has not eaten in three days, was listing to the side, and more recently, has been laying laterally recumbent constantly. The vet came through today and gave some supportive care, but they really don’t seem to have much information on armadillos in general. I have found that their tpyical body temp is between 25 and 30 deg C. She appears to be running a bit of a fever right now but so far, no other remarkable findings. Anyone with any experience with armadillos? Any common medical issues (aside from leprosy) that we should try to rule out? With her listing and being laterally recumbent most of the time, I’m inclined to think there may be CNS involvement. If she makes it through, another vet will be swinging in to see her on Monday for potential BW and rads. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!
