Armadillo Love

While at the Cleveland Metro Zoo with my son we saw Armadillos in love. This was surely something that was a once in a lifetime experience and I would have never known how much a male Armadillo was packing until I saw this… Also notice my 3 year old son banging on the glass and commenting, “Armadillos like their food.” I’m still not sure what he thought they were doing but it surely was not eating food.

Armadillo running in circles!

This armadillo at the Cleveland Zoo was somewhat bored and kept running around in circles.

armadillo pet funny dillans movie

armadillo pet check local laws before you consider one as a pet, and zoonotic diseases, local exotic vets I DO NOT recomend as a pet for unexperienced owners. I did many years of research and worked with the species for two years before I got one.

Gathering Armadillo

When i went to the zoo, i saw the funniest darn thing ever. an armadillo was gathering hay for its nest. its so cute!

I handle some exotic animals at our zoo. Is this okay while pregnant?

I do educational outreaches with the specific zoo animals listed here:
snakes (fox snake, milk snake, boa)
turtles
tarantula
hissing cockroaches
lizards (skink, bearded dragon, legless lizard)
armadillo
rabbit
chinchilla
ferret
opossum
dove
tenrec

I’ve never been bitten by any of them, though the tarantula is venomous, and of course I wash my hands and arms before and after handling. But am I putting my baby at too much risk by doing this? I have a volunteer commitment to do a certain number of hours each year and I still have about 20 to go before the end of 2007. I’m 5 weeks (just found out yesterday!) pregnant. Any animal experts out there who might have some good advice?

THANKS!

E.
